About.
“I believe the most pleasurable works of storytelling are constructed from a careful balance of truth and imagination, and so I find inspiration from looking into the vibrant pools of imagery that are catalogued in my subconscious. I use daydreaming and wall staring to coax these memories into lucid dreams or hallucinations that are clear enough for me to sketch and develop into works of deeper substance that clearly represent who I am, and how I want to speak to my audience.”
Alex Giles
Was born in rural Northumberland, in the North East of England. He now lives and works in the city of Manchester.
After graduating in Fine Art from the University of Derby, Alex embarked on a rewarding career in the film industry, progressing to the role of production designer.
Alex never lost his ambition to make exciting, vibrant paintings, but finding the right time and space to develop his practise was challenging as a freelance film maker.
However In early 2020 he decided to dedicate his full attention to painting, and things moved fast. Giles’ first solo show ‘Eye Hurters’ opened late 2020 at the White Elephant Gallery in Lancashire and the entire collection was acquired by the Deji Museum, Nanjing, China.
Following this Alex has continued to exhibit and sell work consistently at both a local and international level, and his fourth solo exhibition ‘Progressivism’ opened in January 2024 at Casal son Tugores, Alaró, Mallorca, Spain.
